How to use

Settings

Open settings with the gear button in the top-right corner of the home screen. The labels in the app are in Japanese:

  • Reading speedChoose slow (ゆっくり), normal (ふつう) or fast (はやい).
  • VolumeAdjust the volume of the spoken words.
  • Tap hapticsTurn vibration on tap on or off (on supported devices).
  • Parent settingsOpens the purchase screen — see the next section.

For parents: the purchase screen

Purchasing, restoring purchases, contacting us and privacy information are all on the purchase screen.

To open it

Every purchase is confirmed on Apple’s purchase sheet. On a device your child uses, you can also turn off in-app purchases with Screen Time.

Purchases

  • Free wordsSome words in every category can be used without buying anything. Cards with a lock are words that haven’t been unlocked yet; tap one to open the purchase screen.
  • Full Picture Dictionary (ぜんぶの ずかん)Buy it once to unlock every word. It is a one-time purchase with no monthly fee and no automatic renewal. The price is shown on the purchase screen.
  • Family SharingFamily Sharing is supported, so members of your Family Sharing group can use it on their own devices.
  • Internet connectionAn internet connection is required to purchase and to restore purchases.

Frequently asked questions

Does the app include English translations or romaji?

No. It is a Japanese picture dictionary: the screens, word labels and audio are in Japanese, and there are no English translations or romaji.

I made a purchase, but the words are still locked

Please try the following:

  1. Make sure your device is connected to the internet.
  2. Open the purchase screen (tap a locked card, or ) and tap (Restore Purchases).
  3. Check that you are signed in with the same Apple Account you used to buy.

If the problem continues, please contact us.

Do I need to buy again on a new device or after reinstalling?

No. As long as you are signed in with the same Apple Account, tap (Restore Purchases) on the purchase screen to use it again at no extra cost.

Can my family use it on their iPhone or iPad?

Yes. The Full Picture Dictionary supports Family Sharing. Members of your Family Sharing group can install the app on their own devices and use it without buying again. If it doesn’t appear right away, try Restore Purchases.

The app says “おうちの かたの しょうにんを まっています。

This message means “waiting for a parent’s approval.” It appears when a purchase is made from a child’s account with Ask to Buy turned on. Once a parent approves the request, the words are unlocked.

I can’t hear any sound

Please check your device volume, the volume setting in the app (), and whether the device is connected to Bluetooth headphones or a speaker.

Note that the app plays spoken words even when your device is in Silent mode.

The words are read too fast (or too slowly)

In settings, use to choose slow, normal or fast.

Can I use the app without an internet connection?

Yes. Pictures and audio are included in the app, so it works offline after download. Purchasing, restoring purchases, contacting us and opening web pages require an internet connection.

Is there a subscription or monthly fee?

No. The Full Picture Dictionary is a one-time purchase and does not renew automatically.

How do I request a refund?

App Store purchases are handled by Apple, so the developer cannot issue refunds. You can request one on Apple’s Report a Problem page.

Does the app collect personal information?

No. There is no account and no advertising, and the app does not analyze or track how it is used. See our Privacy Policy for details.
